The roar of engines at the Circuit of The Americas will sound different this weekend. For the first time in Formula 1 history, the United States Grand Prix will air with Dolby Atmos audio on Apple TV. The audio upgrade went live on Friday, October 23, allowing viewers to hear race events with spatial precision.
Apple and Dolby Laboratories confirmed the partnership earlier this month. The companies stated that the new audio format would begin with the Grand Prix weekend. This marks the first race in the series to utilize the immersive sound technology.
Apple describes the experience as placing viewers in the center of the action. The audio mix covers team radio, commentary, on-track battles, and pit lane activity. The company pairs this with Dolby Vision visuals to enhance color and clarity. The goal is to replicate the intensity of being at the track.
First practice has already concluded. Subscribers can still watch the remaining sessions. Practice 2 is scheduled for Friday, October 23, at 5 p.m. ET. Practice 3 takes place on Saturday, October 24, at 1:30 p.m. ET. Qualifying follows at 5 p.m. ET that same day. The main race starts on Sunday, October 25, at 4 p.m. ET.
Apple will hold a live screening of the Sunday race at its Domain NORTHSIDE store in Austin. The same location hosted the iPhone Duo launch on Friday. Apple CEO John Ternus and retail chief Deirdre O'Brien attended that event. The store is now a focal point for both the tech launch and the sporting event.
Apple Maps has also prepared for the influx of fans. The company expanded its Detailed City Experience to Austin. The map now includes a detailed view of the Circuit of The Americas. Features include turn numbers, grandstand locations, and 3D landmarks. These tools help visitors navigate the venue.
Apple TV is available for $14.99 per month. It is also included in the Apple One bundle. The service streams titles such as Ted Lasso, Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, Shrinking, and Silo. The F1 broadcast joins this lineup for the Austin weekend.
