The New York Knicks face the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night, a matchup defined by a stark contrast in early-season records. New York is searching for its first victory of the campaign after dropping its opening three games, while Detroit enters the contest with a perfect 3-0 start.

The game is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at Madison Square Garden. Bookmakers list the Knicks as 4.5-point home favorites, with the over/under set at 218.5 points. The betting line reflects the home court advantage despite New York's sluggish offensive start.

New York has fallen to the Philadelphia 76ers, Boston Celtics, and Orlando Magic in single-digit losses. This sequence makes the Knicks the first defending champion to begin a season 0-3 since the 2011-12 Dallas Mavericks. Jalen Brunson leads the team in scoring, averaging 22.7 points per game.

Detroit has navigated a difficult schedule to remain unbeaten, defeating the Celtics, Heat, and 76ers. The Pistons average 118.3 points per game, a figure that ranks eighth in the league. Defensively, the team holds opponents to 105.7 points per contest.

Detroit will play without All-Star center Jalen Duren, who is out with a strained hamstring. The injury is expected to keep him sidelined for at least two weeks. In his absence, Cade Cunningham scored 26 points in Sunday's win over Philadelphia.

Josh Hart of the Knicks is averaging 9.0 rebounds per game this season. He has recorded at least seven rebounds in each of his first three outings. SportsLine's model projects Hart will finish with 9.2 rebounds in Tuesday's game.

The Pistons have a recent edge in the head-to-head series, going 4-1 against the spread in their last five meetings with New York. SportsLine's computer model simulates Detroit covering the spread in 53% of scenarios.
