The Los Angeles Angels must complete all major league roster moves by Dec. 1. Owners are expected to lock out players on that date, freezing all transactions until the dispute is resolved. This creates a compressed window for the team to rebuild its lineup for the 2027 season.

Interim general manager John Mozeliak oversees these decisions. He is also assisting incoming owner Stan Kroenke in finding a permanent head of baseball operations. The new leader will select the manager. Mozeliak remains in charge of player personnel until that search concludes.

Free agency begins at 2 p.m. PT on Monday. Trades can occur immediately after the World Series ends. The Angels hold a $2.5 million option on right-hander Robert Stephenson. He underwent a second Tommy John procedure in April. He will not pitch again until mid-2027. The team has paid him $33 million for 10 innings over three years. They will likely decline the option to save the money.

If the Angels pass on Stephenson, he joins a group of players entering free agency. Catcher Travis d’Arnaud and infielders Adam Frazier and Yoán Moncada are also set to leave the club. This frees up payroll space for other moves before the freeze.

The GM Meetings start in Las Vegas on Nov. 9. Executives usually use this time to plan. The upcoming lockout may make these meetings busier as teams rush to strike deals. Mozeliak may also use the event to interview candidates for the general manager role.

Teams must add minor leaguers to their 40-man rosters by Nov. 17 to protect them from the Rule 5 draft. A lockout may cancel that draft, but teams cannot be certain by the deadline. Outfielder Nelson Rada is the primary player the Angels will protect. The team has enough roster spots to accommodate him.

The non-tender deadline arrives on Nov. 20. The Angels have 11 arbitration-eligible players. They will keep shortstop Zach Neto, first baseman Nolan Schanuel, and pitchers Reid Detmers and Grayson Rodriguez. They will likely retain relievers Ben Joyce, Sam Bachman, and Tayler Saucedo. Outfielders Jose Siri and Josh Lowe, catcher Tyler Heineman, and infielder Oswald Peraza are not guaranteed to return. Non-tendering them will add to the final wave of free agency activity.

Once the lockout begins on Dec. 1, the Angels can hire a manager and coaches. They can also hire front office staff. The major league roster will remain frozen until the lockout ends.
