BYD Yangwang will unveil its most expensive electric sedan in the United Arab Emirates this month, bypassing its home market in China for the global launch.

Hu Xiaoqing, general manager of Yangwang, confirmed the location change earlier this week. The company has not announced a specific date, but the vehicle is expected to appear publicly within the next two weeks. The car is roughly 5,500 mm long, a size comparable to the Rolls-Royce Phantom or Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. This marks a major shift for a manufacturer that built its global reputation on affordable models like the Seagull, a small hatchback priced under $10,000 in China.

Yangwang operates at the top of BYD's internal hierarchy, above the Denza and FangChengBao brands. It serves as the primary platform for testing new engineering. Previous models in this line utilized the quad-motor e4 platform, which generates 1,300 horsepower, and the DiSus-X body control system. That system allows vehicles to perform maneuvers such as jumping or driving on three wheels. The new sedan introduces two technical firsts for the manufacturer: solid-state batteries and rear-hinged coach doors.

Zheng Yu, executive general manager for Yangwang, described the car as featuring "unprecedented disruptive technology" without listing specific mechanical details. Observers note the sedan was tested at a BYD Flash Charging station, which suggests it supports megawatt-level fast charging. Stella Li, executive vice president, told Carwow.es last month that the first BYD vehicle with solid-state batteries would arrive in 2027, implying this new sedan may be part of that rollout.

Rumored pricing places the sedan in the 2 million yuan range, or approximately $300,000. That price point is more than double the cost of the brand's current top seller. The extended U8L plug-in hybrid SUV currently stands as the most expensive mass-produced vehicle in the Yangwang lineup, starting at 1.45 million yuan ($217,000). The U7 electric sedan begins at 658,000 yuan ($98,000), while the U9 electric super-coupe occupies the high-performance segment.

The decision to launch in the UAE reflects BYD's strategy to position the brand against established luxury houses like Bentley and Mercedes-Maybach. By debuting in the Gulf, the company targets a market with high demand for ultra-luxury electric vehicles. The sedan remains disguised in available images, but its silhouette matches the dimensions of the traditional luxury sedan segment.
