Konotop enters fourth day without power
Sumy Oblast city loses gas and water access as repairs stall amid security risks.

Konotop residents have endured four consecutive days without electricity following Russian strikes on the night of October 23 and 24.
Mayor Artem Semenikhin confirmed to public broadcaster Suspilne and on Telegram that the city remains dark as of the night of October 26 and 27. The outage is accompanied by a loss of gas supply in most parts of the city.
Semenikhin stated that educational institutions sustained damage and the local hospital is operating on generator power. Water service is limited to two daily windows: 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
"Unfortunately, there are no forecasts for when power will be restored. No forecasts at all," the mayor wrote.
Sumyoblenergo, the regional power distribution company, reported that emergency repair crews are working around the clock. The company noted that the completion timeline depends on the security situation and whether crews can safely access damaged sites.
The blackout began after 3:00 a.m. on October 24, when Russian forces launched a large-scale drone attack on the Konotop hromada. The strikes hit energy facilities, a school, and residential houses. On the afternoon of October 24, a separate drone strike killed a 31-year-old farm worker and injured four others at a civilian agricultural business.
