Residents of the 2900 block of Southwest 342nd Place in Federal Way learned of a sudden loss on Wednesday morning when officers confirmed a death at a local residence. A 59-year-old woman was found inside the home suffering from severe head trauma. The discovery occurred around 8:20 a.m. after emergency services responded to a reported domestic violence incident. Although responders and officers administered life-saving measures on the spot, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Federal Way Police Department is treating the death as a homicide. Detectives have identified a person of interest in the case, though authorities have not yet released the individual's name or a physical description. The victim's identity remains withheld pending notification of her next of kin. Investigators have not detailed the specific circumstances surrounding the fatal injury or identified the weapon involved in the trauma.
The initial dispatch to the address was for a domestic violence call. Upon arrival, police and medical personnel joined forces to provide emergency care to the victim. The transition from a domestic disturbance call to a confirmed homicide marks a critical shift in the investigation's focus. The timing of the call, shortly after 8:20 a.m., places the incident in the early morning hours of the week.
Authorities assessed the situation for potential threats to nearby neighbors. Investigators indicated that the wider community does not currently face a risk from the person of interest. A department statement said, "There is not believed to be a danger to the public at this time." Officials noted that further details will be shared as the investigation progresses and new information emerges.
Detectives are actively working to locate the suspect and are processing physical evidence collected from the residence. The team is piecing together the sequence of events that led to the woman's death. No further press conference is scheduled for the immediate future, but the department expects to provide updates as they confirm additional facts.
