Oregon outscored Northwestern 26-0 in the final 32 minutes of Saturday afternoon’s game to claim a 34-26 victory. The Ducks overcame a rough first half and the early departure of their two starting running backs to secure the win at Autzen Stadium.
The offensive line faced a sudden shortage of depth. Jordon Davison and Dierre Hill, the team’s primary rushers, both left the contest with injuries during the first half. Davison appeared to sustain a leg injury on an awkward tackle in the second quarter and returned to the sideline on crutches. Neither player took a snap in the second half.
True freshman Brandon Smith and redshirt freshman Da’Jaun Riggs assumed the rushing duties. Smith finished the game with 82 rushing yards and 32 receiving yards, scoring one total touchdown. Receiver Dakorian Moore also exited the game late in the fourth quarter, though specific details of his injury have not yet been reported.
The offense struggled early, managing only field goals until the third quarter. A touchdown catch by Jamari Johnson pulled Oregon within 23-20 midway through that period. From the final two minutes of the first half until the final horn, the Ducks scored 28 points and accumulated 360 total yards of offense.
Dylan Raiola, the transfer quarterback, led the late surge. After a slow start that yielded 120 passing yards in the first half, he finished with 336 passing yards, three touchdown passes, and no interceptions. His performance provided a strong foundation for the comeback effort.
Head coach Dan Lanning, now in his fifth year leading the program, displayed visible intensity throughout the contest. Following Dakorian Moore’s 75-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter, Lanning celebrated exuberantly, a reaction that resulted in a sideline warning for the team. The win provided relief for the coach, who has faced mounting pressure since taking the job in 2021.
The victory came against the backdrop of a difficult season. Oregon lost starting quarterback Dante Moore for the season in his fourth game. The coaching staff had previously dismissed offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer, whose final game saw the offense perform at a level described as competitive with graduate-level Pop Warner teams by local observers.
The crowd at Autzen Stadium responded to the offensive revival. While the atmosphere did not match the peak intensity of past seasons, the energy was palpable as the defense and offense operated in sync during the closing minutes. The win kept the team’s season alive ahead of their next matchup.
Oregon will travel to Columbus next Saturday to face Ohio State. A victory in that game would significantly alter the narrative surrounding the team’s losses to UCLA and Illinois earlier in the year. The Ducks enter that contest with a renewed sense of confidence after breaking their recent losing streak.
