Matthew Stafford became the first player in franchise history to hold the passing touchdown record for two different active teams on Sunday. The Los Angeles Rams quarterback threw his 155th score for Los Angeles during a 35-21 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. This total surpassed the previous mark of 154 set by Roman Gabriel, who achieved that number in 130 games with the team.
Stafford finished the contest 23-for-29 for 195 yards. He also recorded one interception. His three touchdown passes all occurred in the first half, a performance that tied his career high for scores in a single half. His 79% completion rate marked his highest percentage in a game since 2018 while playing for the Detroit Lions.
The milestone extends Stafford's record-setting tenure across two franchises. He currently leads the Detroit Lions with 282 passing touchdowns. Stafford spent the first 12 seasons of his career with Detroit before the Rams acquired him after the 2020 season. The trade sent quarterback Jared Goff to Detroit and included multiple first-round draft picks. He has now played 81 games for the Rams.
Stafford also passed Jim Everett for the second-most career completions in Rams history. Everett held the record with 1,846 completions, a number Stafford moved past on Sunday with 1,851. The quarterback credited his teammates for the achievement. He noted that throwing touchdowns is not a solo effort and requires blockers, receivers, and coaches to execute plays effectively.
"It's pretty cool," Stafford said. He added that holding such a record simply means he is old and has worn himself thin at a previous location. He described his career as a heck of a ride and said he still enjoys doing what he does. Stafford expressed a desire to continue playing and achieving more.
For the 2026 season, Stafford has appeared in seven games. He has completed 67.3% of his passes for 1,989 yards. Those statistics include 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions. The Rams secured the win against the Raiders in Las Vegas to close out the weekend.
The franchise record for passing scores now belongs to a player who split his tenure between two major markets. Gabriel remains the only other quarterback to approach the current total in fewer games. Stafford's 155th score came on an 11-yard throw to wide receiver Puka Nacua in the second quarter.
