Jay-Z will headline the Super Bowl halftime show on Feb. 14. The announcement came Monday night from the NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation. The performance will take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stated that the league's initial deal with Roc Nation included one condition. He asked that Jay-Z take the stage whenever the moment felt right. Goodell said Jay-Z had previously told him that if the partnership was solely about the rapper performing, they could end the conversation immediately.
Jay-Z addressed the decision in a written statement. He described the path from his 1996 debut album 'Reasonable Doubt' to the Super Bowl stage as a journey. He called the upcoming appearance a dream come true after 30 years of work in the music industry.
The rapper returns to the specific venue where he recently closed his 30th anniversary tour. That tour included three sold-out shows at Yankee Stadium. It also featured sold-out performances in London and Paris before the stop at SoFi Stadium over the weekend.
Shawn Carter, known professionally as Jay-Z, holds 25 Grammy Awards from 89 nominations. This total ranks second in history only to his wife, Beyoncé. Beyoncé has performed at two Super Bowls. Jay-Z is also a four-time Emmy winner and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017.
Roc Nation will executive produce the halftime show. Hamish Hamilton will serve as the director. The organization has advised on NFL entertainment presentations since 2019. Recent halftime performances have received major industry recognition, with Bad Bunny's 2024 show winning a record seven Emmys.
The announcement ends days of speculation regarding the 2026 performer. Jay-Z had spent the last seven years refusing the role. He now steps into the spotlight as the featured artist for the league's biggest entertainment event.
