Football fans in the Washington and Philadelphia metropolitan areas face a familiar scene this Sunday: two struggling teams with depleted rosters meeting for a contest expected to feature high scoring. The Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders will play at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, at 8:20 p.m. ET.

Both clubs are fighting to break losing streaks. Philadelphia has lost its last five games, including a 38-21 defeat to the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night. Washington is 1-4-1 after dropping a 23-17 decision to the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 19. The betting market sees a close game, with Washington listed as a six-point favorite. The total points line is set at 40.5.

The injury reports explain the urgency for both benches. Washington receiver Terry McLaurin is out for the season with a knee injury. Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts is also out for the year following a diagnosis of blood clots. Eagles receiver DeVonta Smith is ruled out for Sunday with a hamstring issue. These absences force both coaches to lean heavily on their ground games.

Philadelphia’s offense is anchored by running back Saquon Barkley. He left Monday’s game with a back issue but is expected to play. Barkley has carried the ball 43 times for 244 yards and one touchdown in five games. Washington’s attack centers on quarterback Jayden Daniels, who has started four games. He has completed 64.7% of his passes for 759 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions. Daniels has also rushed for 213 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries, averaging 8.5 yards per attempt.

A sports model that simulates each NFL game 10,000 times projects 43 combined points for this matchup. The model suggests the over on the total points line will hit in 54% of those simulations. This aligns with recent history, as the over has hit in eight of the last 10 meetings between these teams. The two teams combined for 46 points in their last encounter at Philadelphia on Sept. 13.

The model has been 58-51 on top-rated picks since 2024. It is also up more than $5,000 for $100 players on betting sites during that span. The current simulation data indicates one side of the spread hits in more than 50% of the runs, though the specific pick is available through the model’s subscription service.

The game marks Week 8 of the 2026 NFL season. Both teams are seeking their first win of the week to stabilize their standing in the NFC East division.
